Lost 3.08 - "Flashes Before Your Eyes"
This week's episode took some digesting on my part. And I'm still working on it. Great Episode - for sure, but it was definitely different. It made me like Desmond more, and I think it will become a clearer episode once some of the mysteries that were teased are answered.
The recap below doesn't really delve as deep into the "mythology" of the actual episode does. But it's a good "lite" version.

Good Times.

"American Idol" - Final 24 - FIRST IMPRESSIONS
"American Idol" - Season Six officially kicked off last night - revealing the Top 12 Guys and Top 12 Girls! It's about time (those auditions will be the death of me!)So - now that we know what we got to work with this season - what does everyone think? Any dark horses? Any long-shots? Anyone already standing out? Anyone that really shouldn't even unpack their bags?
Well - I definitely want to hold off any official judgements until we see the guys perform next Tuesday and the girls perform next Wednesday. But here are a few that I like and have stuck out among the crowd yesterday. These are first impressions only - so don't hold me to this.
Gina Glocksen - Age 22
Auditioned in Memphis, TN.
I liked Gina. She has tried before in past seasons and has never made it this far. So I am glad for her. She has the pipes to make it to the final 24. Her personality helps her stand out - but she will need to "step it up" to make it farther.
Stephanie Edwards - Age: 19
Auditioned in Memphis, TN.
I like Stephanie as soon as I saw her in the auditions. She gorgeous, bubbly and has a great voice. Her rendition of ''Until You Come Back to Me'' was spot-on. I think she is definitely someone to keep an eye on. I'm really interested on seeing how she fares in the actual competition - hopefully she will bring her "A Game". If she does - she'll go far!
Melinda Doolittle - Age: 29
Auditioned in Memphis, TN.
This backup singer seems to have finally stepped into the spotlight. She has a great voice and a great personality that really shines through when she sings. But it is her incredible smile that really grabbed me. Plus - Simon really seems to like her alot. I've got a feeling she will be around for a while in this competition.
THE MEN
Chris Richardson - Age: 22
Auditioned in New York, NY.
Probably the hottest guy in the competition this year - in my opinion. Got a little Justin Timberlake thing going for him. His voice is pretty average as compared to the others - but he does seem to have enough talent that he could improve during the competition. But - I am kind of a sucker for a hot guy - so I could totally be deluded. Hopefully he won't prove me wrong. Hot guys are few and far between on "Idol" - unfortunately. Those Chris Daughtry types don't come along often.
Auditioned in New York, NY.
Nicholas has auditioned before - and actually dropped out of the competition last year - before he could he be picked for the Final 24. This worries me. I don't remember why exactly he quit - but it doesn't fare well for him. He had a good voice though - so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. We'll see how he does.

Jared Cotter - Age: 25
Auditioned in New York, NY.
Another hot guy. This one has got some male model good looks. (but so did Ace Young - and you see how that went.) But he does have a great solid voice and I liked his version of "Cupid" during Hollywood week. If he steps it up and doesn't rely too much on his looks - he could go for a while. But he definitely needs to prove he is more than a pretty face and nice body.
Chris Sligh - Age: 28
Auditioned in Birmingham, AL.
And my last favorite is Chris Sligh. In my opinion he has the best male voice that I have heard so far. Very different and very strong. Plus - he has personality overload. I really hope he goes far - and I think that he will. His hair bugs me - but I don't know what would make it better - cause it does kind of work for him. (but it gives me a major Justin Guirini headache) But he is definitely a talented guy - and deserves to be where he is. I'm looking forward to see how he does.
So that is it. Like I said - don't hold me to any of this. This is first impressions only. You know how selective those "American Idol" producers are on showing us the good ones up front. I remember that you really didn't see much of Season Four winner - Carrie Underwood - until the competition really started rolling.
Tuesday - Feb. 20 gives us the first head-to-head competition for the guys. Wednesday - Feb. 21 gives us the ladies show. Two in each category will leave on Thursday.
Check back for updates each week. "The Big Bad Blog" LOVES "American Idol" - and will have alot of opinions and critiques to come in the following months - before the crown of "American Idol" is passed down from Taylor Hicks in May.
Until then - I would LOVE to hear what you all think as the competition goes on - so let me know!!

Handsome is Defined at the BAFTA Awards!!
Jake Gyllenhaal is the DEFINITION of Handsome at the BAFTA's on Sunday. He was a presenter. Is it possible for this guy to look any better in that suit?! DAMN!!
"The Queen" picked up the Best Picture award at the "British Oscars" - along with Helen Mirren as Best Actress and Forest Whitaker as Best Actor.
Foreshadowing a win at the Academy Awards later this month?? Only time will tell - but I am thinking - "Yes!"
Enjoy more incredible "handsome-ness" below.

Justin's Newest Video "What Goes Around... Comes Around" Debuts!!
Justin debuts his brand new video for his latest single "What Goes Around.... Comes Around" - starring rumored new girlfriend Scarlett Johansson.
Well - it's actually more of a short film than a music video - clocking in at a little more than 9 minutes!
But with near drownings, a bunch of cussin', a shirtless Justin and a spectacular car crash - it's a pretty good short film.

Lost 3.07 - "Not In Portland"

"Lost" Roars Back on EW Cover!
Jack, Juliette and Ben grace the cover of this weeks Entertainment Weekly coming out today - celebrating the Return of "Lost"!
With Wednesday's excellent episode "Not In Portland" - it looks like the 16 week wait was definitely worth it and that the show is back in top form!
"Portland" was the very first episode to show the flashbacks of an Other - the still mysterious Juliette. Showing Juliette as a sympathetic character (I don't buy it - and I DON'T trust her!) - we learned how she made it to be with The Others and hinted on what exactly this group is doing on the island.
Next week's episode "Flashes Before Your Eyes" is a Desmond-centric episode - and should shed more light on Desmond's clairvoyance and his relationship with Penny Widmore (the woman from the shocker in the 2nd Season Finale!)
"Heroes" is great. "24" is compelling. But "Lost" is STILL the BEST THING ON TELEVISION!!
Hands down!

SPOTTED: Ben Affleck
A fit and trim (and newly smoke-free) Ben Affleck was spotted in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The guy has always done something for me. It's really a shame he didn't pick up an Oscar nod for "Hollywoodland" - but I'll tell you one thing - he looks damn good with some scruff on that face of his.
Very Nice.

It's Their First Dance With Oscar!

Who ever knew back in the 90's when we all were drooling over those Marky Mark CK ads - that someday that perfect body would be nominated for an Academy Award?!? I mean seriously - if someone had told me back then that I was looking at a future Oscar nominee - I would have told them they were crazy!!
Who ever knew when Jennifer Hudson was shamefully booted off "American Idol" WAY TOO soon 3 years ago - that someday she would join that elite club also?!
Well it has happened for them both - along with a few others who now will always have attached to their moniker - "Oscar Nominated Actor/Actress". What an incredible mark in each of their careers!
Here is a rundown of those who lives changed forever when those nominations were announced last month.
Mexican born Adriana Barraza is hardly a huge name in Hollywood circles. Known mainly for Spanish-language television, Barraza received rave reviews and a Golden Globe nomination for her work in “Babel". Barraza plays Amelia – an illegal immigrant nanny who crosses the border for her son’s wedding with the two American children in her care. Her only other American work was as an acting coach on the set of the Adam Sandler film - "Spanglish".
Abigail Breslin picks up her first nomination for playing Olive - the beauty pageant contestant in "Little Miss Sunshine". Believe it or not - Breslin is not the youngest actor/actress to ever be nominated for an Academy Award (that honor goes to Justin Henry who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for "Kramer vs. Kramer" back in 1979. He was eight years old.) Breslin - at 10 years old - is still pretty young to receive the honor. She is probably best known as Mel Gibson's water loving daughter in M. Night Shyamalan's "Signs".
Speaking of child stars - Jackie Earle Haley hasn't been in the Hollywood spotlight in quite a while and is said to be "completely shocked" with his first nomination. Nominated for his part in "Little Children" Haley is probably best known for his role in 1976's "The Bad News Bears" as the tough talking pitcher of the down on their luck baseball team. It's been 1993 since Haley's last movie - it looks like he picked the right role at the right time.
Alot of people consider the Oscar nomination for Eddie Murphy LONG overdue. Even though he has been involved in some pretty standard run-of-the-mill family comedy pictures as of late, Eddie first real foray into drama with "Dreamgirls" finally gave him that elusive Academy recognition. Now I personally think he should have received a nomination for "The Nutty Professor" (don't laugh - that scene at the Klump dinner table was brilliant!) - but it is definitely nice to see Eddie finally get some Oscar love!
Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi achieved a rare distinction - she has received her first Oscar nomination for her first American movie role ever. Very popular in Japan - Kikuchi has won raves in her role as a deaf girl named Chieko in "Babel". Seeing that Kikuchi never actually speaks a word on-screen, it is a testament to her skills that she has been recognized. Hey - it worked for Holly Hunter in "The Piano" in 1993.
Penélope Cruz first came on the Hollywood scene in 2000 with "Woman On Top". She also starred in "Vanilla Sky" with then boyfriend Tom Cruise and "Sahara" with then boyfriend Matthew McConaughey. (I'm seeing a trend...) Never really achieving critical success until her role in Pedro Almodóvar's "Volver", Cruz picked up her first American recognition as an actress.
Lastly - we have Forest Whitaker. I really thought that he had been nominated before - but his nomination for "The King of Scotland" is, in fact, his first. Whitaker plays Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. The ruthlessness portrayed by Whitaker cemented what some consider to be not only a nomination - but also a win. Some of Whitaker's past roles include "Panic Room", "Species" and "Jason's Lyric". He also had recent turns on television in "The Shield" and "ER".
Check out the Academy Awards on Sunday, February 25th on ABC - and see if any of these first time nominees turn into first time winners!
