Lost 3.06 - "I Do"

**WARNING - SPOILER ALERT**

We got another "Lost" episode on Wednesday - the LAST "Lost" until Feb. 7, 2007. Yes - 13 weeks!! Good news is - once it starts again - there will be no reruns and no Wednesday's without a new episode. It will be a straight shot til the Season Three Finale in May.

ABC refers to this episode as a "Fall Finale" - and of course it leaves us hanging off a cliff as usual.

Let get into it.



In the Kate flashback that begins the episode we see Kate in a very different light - in love - with a cop (played by "Firefly" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" actor - Nathan Fillion.)



We learn that they are set to be married soon - and Kate seems very much in love. But of course - Kate is not all on the up and up with her fiance, Kevin.


"I love you, Monica" says Kevin.

Monica???

Meanwhile - back in present day and in the Hydra Station - after reviewing x-rays - Jack gives Ben and Juliet get some grim news.

Ben's spinal cancer is very advanced and will be inoperable in less than a week. It is not too late yet - but if not removed - it will kill Ben very soon.

But Jack refuses to do the surgery - "I just wanted you to know how you were going to die."


"I'm very disappointed" says Ben.

"Well, at least you won't be disappointed for very long" replies Jack.

Kate and Sawyer continue to do the "breaking and hauling of rocks" work they have been doing ever since being captured, when an alarm sounds "Compound Breach Compound Breach".

Suddenly, Alex, burst from the bushes using a crude slingshot as a weapon. Knocking a few of The Others down - she yells at Kate and Sawyer to GO!!

Stopped by Pickett - Alex yells "Where is he, Danny? What did you do with him?!"

Someone grabs her from behind and as she is being hauled away from the other workers - she yells to Kate, "Listen! Whatever they say, DON'T believe them. They are going to kill your boyfriend - just like they killed mine!"

I think she is referring to the guy that was originally in Kate's cage when Sawyer was first captured named Carl. He helped Sawyer escape back in the beginning of the season.

Later - desperate to change Jack's mind concerning his surgery - Ben has Juliet approach Kate, asking her to put on a hood and come with her. Kate refuses.

Juliet tells Kate that Pickett is going to kill Sawyer - but if Kate does what she says, she might be able to Sawyer's life.

I don't trust her at all, by the way - I think she is "evil-er" than Ben. But that is just my opinion.

Ok, back to Kate's flashback - we get to see her wedding to Kevin. Or actually "Monica's" wedding to Kevin.

Even though she is not being truthful - you get the sense that Kate is happy and truly wants to marry Kevin. She seems finally done with running.

Back in the Hydra Station - we see what Juliet needed Kate for and what they want her to do. Juliet leads a hooded Kate into the observation room next to Jack's cell.

This is the first time Jack and Kate have seen each other since The Others had them on the dock in the last season finale. You can see the relief and happiness on Jack's face - seeing Kate and knowing that she is ok.

But that soon changes once he realizes why they brought Kate to him. She asks Jack to please do the surgery on Ben. And tells him that if he doesn't - they are going to kill Sawyer.


Jack, very visibly heartbroken, refuses again - and tells them to take Kate away.


Ben, watching from his monitor room, sees that his plan didn't work and realizes - he's screwed.

Picking up from where we left off last episode, Locke, Sayid, Desmond, Paulo and Nikki prepare to bury Mr. Eko. Locke, lying to the others, tells everyone that "an animal" is the one most likely to have killed Mr. Eko - knowing all along that it was the "smoke monster" that took Eko's life. Only explaining later to Sayid what he believes concerning Eko's death.

Using Eko's "Jesus stick" as a grave marker - Locke begins to hammer it into place. Stopping as he discovers one of the etchings Eko had carved into the stick.

Could this be Eko final message to the other survivors?

Kate's flashback continues - showing that Kate made many attempts to have a normal life - even calling her pursuer - the Marshall who was taking her back to the US on the Oceanic flight that crashed on the island. (he later died of his injuries, with Jack being unable to save him)

Kate tells him that she is happy and in love - and does not want to run anymore.

"As soon as you stop running, I'll stop trying to find you. But that won't happen, will it Kate?" the Marshall replies. Hinting again to the major theme in this episode - Kate inability to stay in one place and "stop running".

Back in present day - Kate, convinced that Sawyer is going to be killed soon, decides they are getting out of there. She climbs out of her cage and breaks the lock of Sawyer cage.

A defeated Sawyer refuses to leave - telling Kate that they have no where to go. He finally tells Kate what Ben showed him a couple of episodes ago - that they are not on their own island, but a separate island all together.


Caught in the moment - Kate and Sawyer finally give in and viewers see what they have been waiting for - Kate makes her choice between Jack and Sawyer.

Back with Jack - as he sleeps, he hears crackling again from the intercom in his cell.

A female voice is faintly heard saying "Try the door". Is it Juliet? Alex? Or someone else all together?

Jack does as the voice instructs and sees that the door to his cell is in fact - unlocked.

Cautiously - he enters the hallway of the Hydra Station and finds Ben's monitoring room.

Where he sees what we were all afraid he would see - Kate and Sawyer, embraced and basking in the afterglow of their cage sex.

Ben then comes from behind Jack - saying that this must be the "nail in the coffin" as far as him using the threat of Sawyer's death as a reason for Jack to save his life. Implying that Jack won't care now if Sawyer dies.

But he's wrong.

Jack says that he will do the surgery - but he has to have Ben's word that once the surgery is done - he will be allowed to "get the hell of this island."

"Done." says Ben.

In the final scene of Kate's flashback - we see that after some time, the Marshall's prediction regarding Kate's ability to stay put - was true.

After being offered a honeymoon she could never take (on Oceanic Airlines, no less) and a pregnancy scare - Kate realizes she cannot continue her double life as Kevin's wife. That no matter how much she loved him - she cannot escape her past.

She tells Kevin her true identity and her crimes. A completely shocked Kevin then realizes that he's been drugged by "Monica" and passes out. With tears in her eyes, Kate then leaves him for good.

In the Hydra Operating Room - Jack and Juliet begin to prep Ben for the surgery.



Strangely, before Ben is put under - he inquires with Juliet if Alex had asked about him. What is their connection? Did Ben raise Alex after they stole her from Danielle - the french woman? Or is something else going on?


After Ben is under and surgery begins - Pickett leaves the Hydra Station - determined to fulfill his promise to kill Sawyer.


He walks in on Kate and Sawyer still together after "being together" - pulls Sawyer out of the cage and makes him get on his knees.

He lowers the gun to Sawyer's head and....

Meanwhile - Jack has his own plan. All of a sudden he makes an incision on Ben's kidney. Monitors begin to scream their alert.

Jack then punches out the male Other in the room and turns to the shocked Tom (Zeke) who was observing the procedure. He tells Tom that he has sliced a portion of Ben's kidney and that he only has an hour to live - if Jack doesn't repair the damage.

He tells Tom to give him a walkie-talkie and to give the other to Kate.

Tom calls Pickett (Danny) - but Danny isn't convinced. "Shepard wasn't even on Jacob's list!" he yells back to Tom.

Jacob?? This is the first time we have heard him referenced. Who is he? Is he the true leader of The Others, over Ben? Could he be the "eye patch guy" Nikki and Locke came across on the monitor in the Pearl Station??

Tom insists that Pickett give Kate the walkie-talkie and reluctantly, he does.

Jack tells Kate that she has an hour to get to a safe place. He asks her to remember the story he told her as she stitched him up right after the crash.

Going along with the theme of the episode - the story referred to Jack getting super nervous before his first surgery. At the time, Kate told him she would have run away.

"You're not running now." he told her then.

Jack tells Kate to call him on the walkie-talkie and tell him that story once she and Sawyer are in "a safe place".

Kate says she can't - not without Jack.

"KATE - DAMN IT - RUN!!!"

Whew! And that is how it leaves us until 2007!

I, for one, think this long wait is a good idea. Sure - it's gonna suck. But it will end - and once February 7th gets here - it is on!! No more waits - no more repeats. Solid "Lost" every week until the Season Three Finale in May!!

And I have a feeling it will be worth the wait. And in the meantime - I will be posting as much "Lost" stuff - spoilers and extras - to keep everyone's hunger for "Lost" at bay. So come back!!

Oh - from the looks of this shot from the next episode - it looks like Kate takes Jacks advice. Her and Sawyer are on the RUN!!
